Calico Rock Artisan Cooperative

 The Calico Rock Community Foundation bought their first building on Main Street in Calico Rock in 2008. The plan was to continue the rental agreement with the current business tenant, but the tenant decided to move. The Foundation had an empty building, a bank loan, and $500 in the bank. This was a problem.

Enter Gloria Sanders. She had a dream to bring local artisans together in one place. A whole group of artisans could sell their work for a small commission and volunteer their time one day a month to keep the little shop open. The Calico Rock Artisan Cooperative was born. This cooperative gives artisans an affordable way to share their talents and sell their work.

What started with just 12 vendors has become a thriving community of 40 talented artists. Each artist brings creativity and passion to their craft, making unique, handmade pieces in their home studios within a 150-mile radius. 

As a bonus, their work keeps traditional crafts alive while sharing them with new audiences. But, there is more to the story. Every dollar from the commission earned by the Foundation goes back into the community, helping to support and revitalize the downtown Main Street Historic District.
